This can make the space feel more inviting. Choosing complementary colors and intriguing patterns can make these pieces of furniture more appealing. If you are in the midst of spring cleaning, don’t forget to take your cleaning supplies down to your storage unit and give it a little spring cleaning as well. Although storage units are secure places, it doesn’t hurt to stop by and check on your items every once in a while.  Start From The Top When you get to your storage unit, you will want to start from the top to the bottom. Get out your duster and dust all of your boxes. You want to start at the top because the dust will fall downwards as you clean. That way, you can make your storage unit as clean as possible. Inspect Each Box As you dust your storage unit, inspect all the boxes and containers. Pay attention to any boxes that have peeling tape. If the tape is peeling, take a few minutes to reseal the box. You should also keep your eye out for boxes that have water stains on them. If you spot any boxes that look like they have gotten wet inside of your unit, pull these boxes out and set them aside.  Open up each potentially wet box and inspect the contents inside. If you notice any mold on your items, you will have to decide if you want to throw out these items or take the time to clean the mold off of them. If the contents of the box seem okay, repackage the items inside of a new box. You may want to consider packaging these items inside of a plastic storage container, where water cannot damage them.  Determine Where The Water Got In After you have inspected the boxes and repacked the items, check out your storage unit and see if you can figure out where the leak is coming from. Check and see if you stored any liquids near the damaged boxes. The liquids could be the source of your leak.   You should also check the roof. Once again, pay attention for any signs that water has gotten into your unit. Wipe down and re-treat any wood fixtures on your furniture, and re-treat any leather as well. Once you have done that, put the covers back on your furniture and put them back in your storage unit.
